at home and doing well
We were discharged from the hospital on Saturday and have been trying to relearn our son again. He is, in many ways, a new little boy.
The surgery was very much a success - Samuel hasn't spit up or had any visible reflux since before the surgery on Wednesday. It took him a little while to figure out the new sensations he was having in his tummy but he's doing pretty well. Since he isn't being woken up by reflux, he is tending to sleep better - which is a big plus for all of us. Of course, every night is different, though. Saturday night he slept straight from 8pm to 4am, then was back to sleep after getting some food and pain meds. However, last night, he was up at midnight, 4am and 5am and didn't really get back into a decent sleep until around 8 this morning. So it goes.
But he isn't spitting up any more. Because of that, Anna Catherine asked me this morning if we were going to throw all the burp cloths in the trash - funny girl.
We are also able to give him bolus feeds again instead of him having to be connected to his pump for 20 hours a day. We're currently doing six to seven 4 oz feeds a day and he is handling those well. So all in all we are very pleased with the results of the surgery and are once again adjusting to a new normal. And the adjustment will have to continue as my sister-in-law Lori and her two kids leave today to head home to PA - for which my brother is thankful. They have served us so well these last two weeks and Sara and I are a little curious how we're gonna do without them. Certainly we can trust that God will provide, as he has all along the way.
While the following picture is from before Samuel's most recent surgery, it is the most current (and best) family photo we've got. Thought I'd share it:
As well, Samuel got his first hair cut last night (thank you Lori!). Here is something of a before and after - just for kicks and giggles:

I check your blog every day, even though I don't think I've commented before. =) When I check it, I also check in with our Father on your behalf. It's blessed me so much to see how His grace has been sufficient for this time of challenge for you guys. You and your family are being held in the palm of His hand....
Cousin Sue in DE =)

Grant,
You may not remember me, but I remember you from Furman and came across your blog today. I want you to know I will begin to pray for Samuel and your entire family.
Colin is such a cutie - love the haircut! Glad he's back home and everyone is settling in again. We're praying for you guys with each new step in the process.
Glad to hear the surgery went well. We were so glad to have the hang time with you last week. Thank you for your hospitality to us in your time of weariness. We will pray for rest. We leave Wed morning! Love you guys!
Love,
Julie
Grant,
Thanks for directing me to your blog. I can't imagine how hard everything is. My child is asleep right now (a rare occasion) but he has been healthy so far. We'll be praying for your little one. Sounds like you have a great church family. I trust that's been a blessing. Good to hear from you brother. Tell Sara I said hi.
And by the way, I'm just Geoff (pronounced "Jeff") now. Times change, eh?
Peace.
Hi there,
I love the choice of hymn you have put on your blog - God is Faithful, till we meet Him, in the best and worst of times. I'm so encouraged to see you can claim that too in your situation! My son has the same birthday but 2 years earlier than yours, I cannot imagine how difficult your situation is and though I've never even met you, as a sister in Christ I will one day, and would like you to know that I have prayed for your son and family today to our Father!
